Due to recent regulatory changes by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), LVNs are required to take all theory hours in a classroom setting. The Board will no longer allow homestudy.
Day 4 (Skills day) of the class includes successful venipunctures on fellow students. If you do not want to or have a condition that does not allow you to receive venipunctures, you may bring someone to take your place during the return demonstration part of the course. Students are expected to perform at least 6 (six) venipunctures.

This course is offered to Licensed Vocational Nurses (and/or interested Registered Nurses) and is designed to prepare them in starting and superimposing intravenous fluids, and performing blood withdrawal as ordered by the primary care provider. The course covers psychological preparation of the patient, selection of equipment, aseptic technique, relevant anatomy and physiology, pharmacology of intravenous solutions and total parenteral nutrition, and administering blood components. Students will perform simulated and actual intravenous catheterizations and blood withdrawals.
